  • January 25, 2016

BOCA RATON, FL – Dr. Robert Eckelson, a leading orthodontist, will give a lecture to Florida Atlantic University students at the end of this month.

Dr. Eckelson will be the guest for a pre-professional studies class on Jan. 29. As part of the lecture, students in the class are encouraged to shadow various doctors, including Dr. Eckelson.

“Along with giving people a smile they love, I enjoy inspiring the next generation of doctors and dentists,” Dr. Eckelson said. “I can tell them what to expect during their dental careers and share many of the patient success stories that keep me enthusiastic and excited about my profession.”

Florida Atlantic University offers pre-medical and pre-dentistry courses and operates a dental clinic for university students in Boca Raton. Dr. Eckelson has worked with the school to mentor aspiring dentists and orthodontists for the past 20 years.

Dr. Eckelson has practiced orthodontics for more than four decades. In that time, he has taken countless continuing education courses to stay current with changes in orthodontics and new teeth straightening methods. Dr. Eckelson said he takes pride in teaching young people about the advantages of dentistry and orthodontics.

“I love to learn and to teach others, so this is truly an important event for me,” Dr. Eckelson said. “If I can help just one student make a decision about their career or show them how gratifying dentistry and orthodontics can be, it’s all worth it.”

Dr. Eckelson has served as an orthodontist in Boca Raton for more than 40 years. His office focuses on providing comfortable treatments for teens and adults through traditional metal braces and esthetic appliances. The trays are virtually invisible and can be easily removed for cleaning and eating. He also treats temporomandibular dysfunction and offers whitening treatments.

Dr. Eckelson received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry in 1971. He was one of just five people to be admitted to dental school after only two years of undergraduate studies. Following his graduation from dental school, Dr. Eckelson attended the University of Illinois orthodontic program, where he earned his orthodontics certification in 1973.

Dr. Eckelson is a certified flight instructor and flies for Angel Flight, a nonprofit organization that provides free flights for medical patients who cannot afford commercial airfare. He is a certified diver and also has had a passion for amatuer radio since he was in eighth grade.

Dr. Eckelson exceeds the state requirements for continuing education every year and is involved in beta testing with the latest orthodontic suppliers.
