Invisalign Works For Teens and Adults | Boca Raton, FL

We all know our mouths are important. We want our teeth to be healthy, white, and, if possible, straight.

Whether you’re a teenager or an adult who is interested in having straighter teeth, you do have choices. One is traditional braces. These work well, but for some people, these just aren’t a good option.

Thankfully, there is another way that requires no brackets and no wires. This other option is called Invisalign, and it’s available through Robert A. Eckelson, D.D.S., P.A. in Boca Raton.

How Invisalign works?

In order to reposition your teeth, you must apply pressure. This can be done by pushing or pulling the teeth in the direction you want them to go.

Traditional braces do this with a series of interconnected brackets and wires. These can be adjusted to apply the pressure that will move any crooked tooth into a straighter position.

Invisalign uses clear plastic aligners to push your teeth into a new position. The inventors of Invisalign developed a computer program that allowed the creation of custom aligners that could move multiple teeth at the same time.

If you use this system, you will start by having an impression made of your teeth. Using that impression as a starting point, we get a series of aligners that you will change every couple weeks. Each aligner moves your teeth a little closer to its final position.

When you are finished, your teeth will be in the position you want them to be, and you will have the straighter smile you’ve always wanted. You may need to wear a retainer for a short time when you are finished with Invisalign to ensure your teeth stay in their new position.

Orthodontists and periodontists like Invisalign, too. Because the aligners move your teeth just a little bit at a time, it puts little stress on your gum tissue.

Who can wear Invisalign?

Invisalign is a great option for teenagers and adults.

Millions of Americans have crooked teeth, but many of those people aren’t comfortable wearing braces.

Maybe you are a working adult who feels wearing braces could create awkward situations when meeting new clients or dealing with co-workers. You want your colleagues listening to what you have to say, not being distracted by the sight of braces.

Maybe you are teenagers who just finds braces painful. The brackets and wires can scratch and poke the inside of your mouth, which can be uncomfortable.

Whether you have teeth that are crooked, have an overbite or underbite, or have a combination of issues with the alignment of your teeth, Invisalign offers a safe, reliable method to straighten all of them.

We want you to smile when you are happy, rather than trying to hide your joy because you feel ashamed of your teeth.

How is Invisalign better than braces?

As we mentioned above, traditional braces and Invisalign are both effective at what they are designed to do (straightening teeth), but you may find some benefits to going with Invisalign.

First, Invisalign’s plastic aligners are more comfortable to wear. Without any brackets or wires, the aligners are not going to poke or scratch your mouth.

Since you replace the aligners every two weeks, you won’t need to come in for tightening appointments like you will with braces.

Second, Invisalign’s plastic aligners are clear. This makes them nearly invisible to other people, and it means many people will never know you are wearing them.

Third, Invisalign’s aligners are removable. For best results, you should wear the aligners for at least 22 hours per day. That means you can remove your aligners when you eat and when you need to brush and floss your teeth.

This means you can eat whatever you want, and you don’t have to change your oral hygiene routine or get special tools to keep your mouth healthy.

And for teenagers, Invisalign has created a special product line, Invisalign Teen. This has small blue dots that help you remember to change your aligners. When the blue dots fade, it’s time to start using the next aligner.

Teens can also start wearing Invisalign Teen before all their adult teeth have come in, which can head off potential problems before they happen.

And for parents, Invisalign Teens offers you the opportunity to get replacement aligners if some are lost.
