Are you plagued by unexplainable headaches or migraines? What about jaw, neck, or ear pain? If so, you may be suffering from TMD. Let’s talk about TMD and how Dr. Eckelson and his team can help to relieve your pain.

What is TMD?

TMD, or temporomandibular joint dysfunction, is characterized by pain or discomfort associated with the jaw joint. One of the most common indicators of TMD is regular or prolonged headaches that cannot be explained by any other circumstance. This head pain is irritating and uncomfortable at best, and debilitating at worst.

TMD can be caused by any number of factors. Stress on the jaw joint due to injury or misalignment is a common cause. When this stress occurs, it creates an imbalance in your face and jaw, causing pain and discomfort in the surrounding areas. Some other common symptoms of TMD include:

  • Jaw pain
  • Facial pain
  • Neck or shoulder pain
  • Earaches
  • Clicking or popping of the jaw joint
  • Lockjaw
  • Trouble chewing or opening the mouth wide
  • Swelling in the face or jaw

If you are experiencing unexplained headaches, or any of the other TMD symptoms above, please contact our office to schedule a consultation. We can help ease your pain.

How can you relieve my headaches?

Our team can offer you simple solutions to your TMJ-related headaches and migraines. We use oral appliance therapy in order to relieve your pain. We can create a splint that will work to correct the problem. Our occlusal splints are essentially plastic teeth coverings that are designed to change your bite and alleviate stress on your jaw joint. Just wear the appliance as directed by Dr. Eckelson and your TMJ pain should reduce and possibly even disappear over time. Our splints can take care of most TMJ-related pain. We can alleviate your headaches and get you back to your normal life. However, if your situation is too severe for a splint, we will offer you a professional reference who can help.
